Make the "Original estimate" field required when creating work items

The Original estimate is part of Jira's Time Tracking feature
The "Original Estimate" field is part of Jira's Time Tracking feature and works in conjunction with the "Time Remaining" field. These two fields are designed to help teams estimate and monitor the time required to complete tasks.
The Original Estimate field will only be available when Time Tracking is enabled for the space. It can't function independently, as it relies on Time Tracking being active to display and operate correctly. Together, these fields support effective time management and task progress tracking.

This document contains the steps on how to make the "Original estimate" field required when creating work items using both experiences. Please choose the section that matches your Jira instance.
Add the Original estimate field and make it required
To make the Original Estimate field mandatory, you must add the field to the work item creation screen and mark it as required. To achieve it, follow these steps:
Add the field Time Tracking to the relevant work type's create screen:
Go to Space settings > Work items > Screens.
In the screen scheme associated with the desired work type, select the screen associated with the Create issue operation.
Navigate to the bottom of the page.
In the dropdown, find the Time Tracking field and select it.
The field is now part of the work item creation screen.
Make the Time tracking field required:
Using the Field Schemes:
Go to Space settings > Work items > Fields.
Select Actions > Edit fields.
Find the Time Tracking field on the list.
Select ••• > Change field behavior by work type.
For the Required on, select the option according to your use case to make the field required. Depending on the option selected, you may need to select work types.
Using Field Configurations:
Go to Space settings > Work items > Fields.
Select the pencil icon.
Find the Time Tracking field on the list.
Under Actions, select Required.
Note: Making Time Tracking required applies to all work types that use that field configuration. Check which work types use the configuration before applying the change.
The change takes effect immediately, and users must fill in Original Estimate when creating a work item.
