DVCS Smart Commits are not working due to User not found by email

Problem

Smart commits in BitBucket or GitHub (#resolve, #comment, #time, etc.)do not result in a comment or in an issue being resolved or closed. However, the smart commits are recorded in the development panel on issues (Integrating with development tools).

The following appears in the atlassian-jira.log:

1 DVCSConnector.SmartCommitsProcessor:thread-21 WARN cr3 920x510x1 ly9df2 135.196.28.254,131.103.26.113 /secure/admin/AddGithubOrganization!finish.jspa [plugins.dvcs.smartcommits.DefaultSmartcommitsService] User not found by email ****@example.com.

Cause

Jira Software is unable to match the Git user by email to a Jira Software user. If there are multiple users with the same address, change the email address for those related accounts so they are not duplicated

Resolution

For smart commits to work properly:

  1. The user needs to correctly configure the email address in their Git client to match the email address of the JIRA Software user's account.

  2. The JIRA Software user also needs to have permissions to comment/resolve issues in that particular project.

After correcting the problem, manually synchronise the repository to update it.
