Why can I not see the Bitbucket repository while I can see commit and pull request information in Jira?

Summary

The Jira development panel shows you branches, associated pull requests, and commits on an issue but clicking on any of these links gives me a 404 page where the URL is a Bitbucket URL

Diagnosis

Bitbucket and Jira have different permission models. You might have access to a particular Jira project or Issue that is linked to Bitbucket or the issue key might be used in Bitbucket. However, this does not provide implicit permission to view the associated commit or pull request details within Bitbucket itself. You need to have separate access within Bitbucket to view the associated resource.

ℹ️Having Jira access does not automatically provide you with Bitbucket access even though the Jira site may be integrated with the Bitbucket workspace

Solution

To view the Bitbucket commit, Pull Request, or branch within Bitbucket, you need Repository access to which the resource belongs in Bitbucket. A Bitbucket admin can perform the below steps to provide access -

Provide Group Access

  1. Go to Workspace Settings

  2. Go to "User Groups"

  3. Click on the group you want to add the user to

  4. Click on "Add Users" and add the relevant user

Provide Direct Access

  1. Go to Repository Settings

  2. Click on "Add Users or Groups"

  3. Add the user by email to provide direct access

Additionally, you can follow this documentation to provide access to a workspace.
