Unable to Add Comments or Perform Write Actions via ChatGPT Rovo Connector

Summary
Users integrating the Atlassian Rovo Connector with ChatGPT Enterprise may find that they can search for and read Jira issues or Confluence pages, but are unable to perform "write" actions, such as adding comments to Jira issues. They may receive an error stating that the tool is unavailable or that they have read-only access.
Diagnosis
The user can search and retrieve Jira/Confluence data but cannot execute actions like "Add Comment" or "Create Issue."
When the user asks/prompts which tools are available for them to use, add comment or create issue tools aren’t available. Only the read tools are available in the list.
Cause
This behavior is typically caused by using the "Company Knowledge" feature within ChatGPT rather than the dedicated Atlassian Rovo App.
Company Knowledge Flow: By design, OpenAI’s "Company Knowledge" integration is read-only. This is a safety measure to prevent accidental modifications to company data while using the general chat interface.
Solution
1. Identify the Access Method
Confirm if the user is typing in the general ChatGPT "Company Knowledge" search bar. If they are, they are in a restricted read-only environment.
2. Required Workflow for "Write" Actions
To enable the full suite of Rovo MCP tools (including adding comments), the user must engage the Atlassian Rovo App/Plugin directly. Use these steps to guide the customer:
Option A: Go to Apps/Plugins within ChatGPT > Select Atlassian Rovo > Start a chat specifically within that app context.
Option B: Start a New Chat > Click the + (plus) button > Select More > Choose Rovo.
Result: Once inside the dedicated Rovo App context, the MCP Server provides the necessary "write" permission tools, and actions like add_comment will become available.
