Claude AI Atlassian MCP Connection Error: "Supported sites required"
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.
Summary
Learn how to resolve the connection error issue with the Atlassian Model Context Protocol (MCP) connection within Claude AI (Claude.ai or Claude Desktop).
Diagnosis
When attempting to use or recreate the Atlassian Model Context Protocol (MCP) connection within Claude AI (Claude.ai or Claude Desktop), the user receives the error message saying, "Supported sites required".
This often occurs even if the user has active licenses for Atlassian Cloud products (Jira, Confluence) and could previously use the connection successfully.
Cause
The issue is typically caused by using an incorrect or outdated MCP endpoint during connection setup, which prevents the authorization flow from recognizing a supported Atlassian Cloud site correctly.
Solution
Use the correct Atlassian MCP endpoint and then reconnect the integration using a fresh authorization session.
Review the MCP configuration or connection setup being used in Claude AI or Claude Desktop and confirm the endpoint is correct.
Use one of the supported endpoints:
https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcporhttps://mcp.atlassian.com/v1/mcp/authv2.If the connection was previously authorized with the wrong endpoint, revoke the existing MCP or Claude authorization from your Atlassian account app settings, wait about 10 minutes for propagation, and start a brand new chat session before reconnecting.
During reconnection, select the correct Atlassian Cloud site and complete the consent flow using an account that has an active Jira or Confluence license on that site.
If the error continues, verify that you can sign in directly to the intended Atlassian site with the same account and that the site is an Atlassian Cloud site.
