Setting up Claude.ai

← Back to the getting started guide

Claude by Anthropic is a supported client for connecting to the Atlassian Remote MCP Server. This guide walks you through how to configure Claude for Teams to stream data from Jira and Confluence securely.

You don't need to install Node.js or configure a proxy—Claude communicates directly with the Atlassian-hosted server.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

  • An Atlassian Cloud site with Jira and/or Confluence

  • Access to Claude for Teams

  • A modern browser to complete the authentication flow

Configuration steps

1. Open Claude and go to Settings > Integrations
2. Select Add integration

Claude.ai integrations screen

3. Paste in the server URL:

https://mcp.atlassian.com/v1/sse
Claude.ai add integration screen

4. Start a new chat, open the Search & Tools menu

5. Select Connect Atlassian Account and follow the prompts to log in
6. Grant access to your Jira and/or Confluence site during the OAuth flow

7. Enable the tools for Jira and Confluence in Claude

Claude will now be able to respond to prompts that include live Atlassian content.

Tips for a successful connection

  • Ensure pop-up blockers are disabled during OAuth

  • If the chat tool doesn’t return data, verify your Jira or Confluence access

  • Try starting a new chat if Claude becomes unresponsive

Example queries to try

  • "Summarize the page 'Quarterly Planning - Q3'"

  • "Create a Jira issue titled 'Review onboarding flow'"

  • "Link the last three bugs to the 'Release 2.0' Confluence page."
