Set up Agent2Agent connections

You can connect compatible third-party AI agents to Atlassian Rovo with Agent2Agent (A2A) connections. Once connected, your third-party AI agent can ask Rovo questions and complete supported Jira and Confluence tasks on your behalf. For example, you might ask Gemini to add a comment to a Jira work item you’re working on.

What Rovo can access

When you authorize an A2A connection, you grant the agent access based on your own Atlassian permissions. Rovo can't do anything you can't already do.

• A2A uses OAuth 2.1 for authorization, not API tokens.

• Rovo respects your existing Jira, Confluence, and Atlassian permissions.

• Your organization's AI and Rovo access policies still apply. A2A doesn't bypass admin controls.

• Your organization admin can turn off A2A connections at any time.

Before you begin

An A2A connection can't bypass your organization settings. Even if you authorize an A2A connection, it will only work if your organization allows A2A connections. You can only use A2A if:

• you’re using an Atlassian Cloud site with Rovo

• An organization admin has enabled A2A connections for your organization

• your third-party AI agent supports A2A

• your AI-enabled apps and Rovo access policies allow the Atlassian apps and data you want to use

Connect a third-party AI agent to Rovo with A2A

There are two ways to connect a third-party AI agent to Rovo using A2A. If the first and simplest option isn’t available to you, try the second option:

• Option 1: Connect directly from a third-party AI agent (simplest)

• Option 2: Use Rovo’s AgentCard URL to the third-party AI agent

Option 1: Connect directly from a third-party AI agent

If a third-party AI agent has an Atlassian Rovo listing, install card, or "Add Rovo" button, this is the easiest option. The third-party AI agent handles most of the setup for you.

To connect directly from a third-party AI agent:

1. Navigate to the AI third-party AI agent's marketplace or catalog.

2. Find and select Atlassian Rovo to start the automatic registration process.

3. When prompted, sign in to Atlassian to review the requested permissions and approve access.

The instructions below are provided to help you connect to AI agents that aren’t part of Atlassian. If you’re not able to complete the steps, refer to the third-party AI agent's website for more detailed instructions from them.

Option 2: Add Rovo's AgentCard URL to the third-party AI agent

If the third-party AI agent lets you add an agent by URL, use Rovo's AgentCard URL to start the automatic registration process. You don’t need to visit the URL.

1. Copy the URL: https://a2a.atlassian.com/.well-known/agent.json

2. In your third-party AI agent’s settings, look for a field to paste the URL. It’s likely to have a label such as "AgentCard URL," "A2A URL," or "Add agent". If you’re not sure, visit the third-party AI agent’s website, or ask the agent to help you find it.

3. Paste the URL into the field.

4. If prompted or required, save your changes.

5. When prompted, sign in to Atlassian and approve the requested permissions.
