Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.

Summary

This article provides guidance on troubleshooting and resolving audio issues in Loom recordings. Whether you’re facing missing, low, distorted, or intermittent audio, the instructions below will help you ensure both microphone and system audio are reliably captured in your Loom videos for all future recordings. Solutions apply to both the Loom desktop app and Chrome extension.

Note: If your recording already has missing or poor audio, it cannot be fixed or replaced.

Diagnosis

This article focuses on:

  • Resolving missing or low audio during recordings.

  • Fixing distorted or intermittent audio issues.

  • Ensuring system audio and microphone input are captured properly.

  • Addressing hardware, software conflicts, and permissions.

Cause

  • Internal (system/tab) audio or microphone permissions/settings may not be configured correctly.

  • Low audio volume

  • Distorted or intermittent audio caused by hardware conflicts, resource limitations, or GPU/CPU processing issues.

  • Audio Missing Due to Windows Audio Enhancements

Solution

1. Missing Audio in Recordings

1. **For System Audio (Chrome Extension)**:

  • **Cause**: Internal (system/tab) audio or microphone permissions/settings may not be configured correctly.

  • **Solution**:

  • Use the "Chrome Tab" recording mode and check the box for "Share the tab audio."

2. **For System Audio (Desktop App)**:

  • Toggle "ON" the **Use system audio** option in the app's recording settings.

3. **For Microphone Audio (Chrome extension)**:

  • Reset Chrome microphone permissions by visiting `chrome://settings/content/microphone`.

4. Check your Mac or Windows privacy settings to ensure microphone access is enabled for Loom desktop app and Chrome browser.

  • Ensure your preferred microphone is set as the default input device.

  • Re-grant microphone permissions to Loom after restarting Chrome.

---

2. Low Audio Volume

  1. Open your system’s Sound Settings to check the input volume for your microphone.

    • Windows:

      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.

      • Under Input, select the correct microphone and adjust the Microphone and Microphone Boost levels in the device properties.

    • Mac:

      • Open System Preferences > Sound > Input and adjust the Input volume slider.

---

3. Distorted or Intermittent Audio

  • Cause: Hardware conflicts, resource limitations, or GPU/CPU processing issues.

  • Solution (Windows only):

    1. Enable the Use fallback recorder option in the Loom desktop app under Video & audio settings to switch from GPU to CPU processing.

    2. Test different recording modes (e.g., Full Screen, Window) and compare results.

    3. Use an alternative microphone or camera to rule out hardware-specific issues.

4. Audio Alternating Between Clear and Muffled

  1. Test your microphone by recording a sample outside Loom (e.g., using Voice Memos or another recording app).

  2. If the issue persists in recordings outside of Loom, repair or replace the microphone, or use an external mic instead.

  3. If the external recording sounds fine outside of Loom, but is consistently reproduced when using Loom, reach out to Loom Support with a sample recording in Loom and in an alternate recording platform using the same hardware to investigate.

5. Audio Missing Due to Windows Audio Enhancements

  • Cause: A recent Windows update may enable Voice Clarity or Voice Focus, which can interfere with audio capture.

  • Solution:

    1. Open Windows Settings with Win + I, then go to System > Sound.

    2. Under Input, select your active microphone.

    3. Scroll to the Audio Enhancements section.

    4. Disable Voice Focus or Voice Clarity.

Notes or Limitations

  • For persistent issues, contact Loom Support with example videos and screenshots of your recording settings.
