Environment

Jira 8.x

Cause

Although Jira has a shortcut to add a new comment (letter 'm'), by default, this keyboard shortcut gets captured only when viewing an issue and not while editing it.

The cause for this problem is a custom plugin, injecting the front-end code and changing when the keyboard shortcut gets captured.

For example, Threaded comments for Jira is one plugin known to be causing the problem.

Solution

  • To work around the problem instantly, uninstall / disable the offending plugin.

    • If you are not sure which plugin is causing the problem, enable Safe Mode for plugins (to disable all plugins) and then keep enabling the plugins, one by one, until the issue is reproduced again.

  • Contact the plugin vendor to see if there is a solution for the problem caused by that plugin.
