Summary
We see the custom field "Rank (Obsolete)" being listed under Custom fields. What is this custom field and can it be safely removed?
Environment
Jira Software on Data Center.
Solution
There have been three generations of Rank types in Jira:
First Generation: GreenHopper Rank field
Second Generation: Global Rank/Rank field
Third Generation: LexoRank
The "Rank (Obsolete)" refers to the second-generation rank type, which is no longer used in Jira.
Initially, this rank type was locked and could not be deleted because it was essential for system functionality. However, it has since been replaced by a new field named "Rank" and is now considered redundant.
It can be deleted if desired.
To delete this field, please follow the steps mentioned in Remove duplicate Rank fields in Jira server.
We also have an existing Feature request JSWSERVER-11228 - Rank (obsolete) fields should be unlocked so that they can be deleted to automatically delete this field which has not been implemented yet.
