Verifying if a URL name has been used when creating/renaming a Cloud site

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.

Summary

Problem

As an administrator of a Cloud site, you are looking to use a specific name for the site and would like to verify if the desired name is available to be used or not.

Solution

Creating a brand-new Cloud site

When creating a new Cloud site, after choosing the desired product (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence) and signing up for an Atlassian account, you will be prompted to enter a name for the new Cloud site.

If the desired name has already been taken, you will see a message that the name is already in use on another site.

If the name chosen is available, you will see a green checkmark next to the site name and be allowed to proceed with the site creation:

Renaming an existing Cloud site

Note: This section applies when you are looking to rename your Cloud site according to the steps documented on Change a product URL subdomain

When trying to update the URL of the Cloud site, if the desired name has already been taken, you will see a message saying the site URL is already taken and you will not be allowed to continue with the updating the site name.
