Redirected to "Timeline" app when attempting to work on an Epic

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

The nature of the problem is:

  • Users would be redirected to the "Timeline" app a few seconds after accessing an Epic issue type.

  • The Timeline add-on is inactive and had been disabled on Jira Cloud, resulting in an error message "License is expired."

Environment

Jira Cloud

Diagnosis

  • To begin, open any standard issue type that is associated with an Epic.

  • Right-click on the Parent issue (Epic) and select the option to open the Epic in a new tab.

  • The Parent/Epic Issue will load in Jira.

  • After a few seconds, you will be redirected to the "Timeline" app, where an error message stating "License is Expired" will appear.

Cause

The Timeline add-on was deactivated after the trial subscription expired, but it was not uninstalled. It is likely that the add-on's configuration directed certain issue types (such as Epics) to the "Timeline" add-on when specific actions were taken.

Solution

  • If you are not using the Timeline add-on, it is recommended to uninstall it. However, before proceeding, it is important to understand the potential consequences of uninstalling the add-on.

  • Uninstalling the add-on may result in the loss of associated data, for detailed information, please refer to Uninstalling apps.

  • Once the add-on is uninstalled, the issue causing the redirection to the Timeline add-on when accessing the Epic issue type will be resolved.

  • You can carry out various actions across different projects, including commenting on issues and navigating from linked issues. All functionalities related to the Epic issue type should operate correctly.

  • To determine the user who installed the app, navigate to Apps > Manage Your App > Audit Logs. If the app was installed within the last 30 days, you should be able to access information about the user responsible for the installation.
