Unable to perform the copy operation for the workflow

Summary

This article contains details of the scenario when the admin is trying to copy the workflow and the operation fails with the below error:

Environment

Jira Cloud

Cause

This error is observed when the workflow contains a status or multiple statuses having more than one whitespace between the text i.e. if the Status name is "In Progress" (containing 2 or more whitespaces)

Solution

The Jira administrator can follow the below steps to perform the workflow copy operation successfully:

• Navigate to the workflow that needs to be copied.

• Review the status names for the workflow.

• Update the name for the statuses containing more than one whitespace between the text.

  When trying to update the status name you would observe a warning that the status name changes will reflect for all the workflows that are using that particular status. 

• Save the updated name and publish the workflow.

• Perform the copy operation for the workflow. The workflow should be copied successfully now.
