Summary

Some users are not able to assign issues to sprint in the Edit Issue screen. The Jira Software Sprint field drop-down is disabled or not editable.

Additionally, when hovering over the Sprint field in the View Issue screen, there is no pencil icon allowing edits to this field.

Solution

Environment

  • Jira Software Server/Data Center on any version from 8.0.0.

  • Jira Cloud

Grant the Edit Issues and Schedule Issues permissions

Two permissions are necessary to assign issues to sprints:

  • Edit issues

  • Schedule issues

The affected users are missing one or both of these, which can be verified by using the Permission Helper.

To grant the impacted users bothpermissions from the Project Permissions page:

  1. Log in as a Jira Administrator

  2. Navigate to the affected project

  3. Select Project settings

  4. Select Permissions

  5. At the Permission Scheme page, Select Actions -> Edit Permission

  6. Locate the 2 permissions Edit Issues andSchedule Issues and take note of the listed users, groups, and project roles

  7. Ensure affected users are included in the appropriate group already associated to these permissions by checking the groups page

  8. If the user is not, select Add and associate the user directly to those permissions
