Some read-only fields don't show on Jira work item when empty
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.
Summary
Certain custom fields aren't appearing on Jira work items. The fields are not hidden in the field configuration, and are set to appear in the work item screens, layout, and in the selected fields dialog for the affected user. Jira's "Find my field" tool also indicates the field should be visible.
Solution
Jira Align's read-only fields are hidden when empty
Jira Align manages certain custom fields inside Jira. These fields are designed as read-only fields on the Jira side, as their data should only be modified by changes that are synced from Jira Align.
When these specific fields are empty (they contain no value, not even a default), they will never appear on a Jira work item. This is true even if they are not configured to be "hidden when empty" in the work item layout.
In general, if a field is both empty, and uneditable by the user viewing the work item, then the field won't appear. For read-only fields, including those created by Jira Align, since they can't be edited by affected users, the fields themselves will be hidden.
