Priority Color configuration will not change the color of a priority's text or icon

Problem

Changing the Priority Color setting using the following process for a given Priority does not change the test and/or icon color:

  • JIRA Administration -> Issues -> Priorities.

  • Click on edit on any priority.

  • Change the color.

Cause

The Priority Color setting is not related to text or icon color which causes this discrepancy.

You can not change the color of the priority icon or text which causes this display difference. The icon uses a *.icon* or static image file and not the color set in the Priorities settings.

The Priority Color field is, to certain extent, misleading. It is used to in the Projects Dashboard Gadget to demonstrate the percentage of issues created within that project of a certain priority as per this screenshot:
