Time Tracking in Jira Cloud

In Jira Cloud, the Original Estimate and Remaining Estimate fields are linked to the 'Time Tracking' field. Ensure the Time Tracking field is visible to access these estimates.

The Original Estimate: Add Time Tracking to the screen to show this field

The Remaining Estimate: This will be displayed when you hover your cursor over the Time Tracking field.

Detail pane of a work item, Time tracking field is shown with the Remaining Estimate as overlay

In the Issue Layout Configuration section, you can find all Jira core fields, including Remaining Estimate and other fields used internally by Jira.

Remember, selecting core fields doesn't guarantee they'll appear on the issue view screen.

Solution

To enter an Original Estimate when creating or editing a work item, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Field Configuration for the respective work item type

  • Find the Time Tracking field in the list of fields

  • Select Show from the Actions menu

  • Check that all relevant screens are listed

  • Add the field to any screens missing as outlined in Configure work item screens
