Summary

CSV Export in the "user-friendly" format of a TextArea attribute has an unnecessary line break, causing the CSV to render the data incorrectly in MS Excel.

Environment

JSM DC / Asset DC

Diagnosis

Opening the CSV file in another CSV viewer or text editor, you will see the content but with line breakers.

Cause

The Issue of the field text getting misplaced is not caused by the actual CSV export generated by Asset but, instead, is caused by a limitation with Microsoft Excel.

Solution

  • After Opening the file in MS Excel, Click the Select All button

  • Double-click the in-between Row 1 and 2 when the cursor changes, which should authorize all the fields to match the data.
