JIRA times out when deleting project

Symptoms

  1. Delete Project operation times out

The following appears in the atlassian-jira.log:

1 2012-05-04 09:55:05,737 http-8080-1 ERROR root 582x38562x6 1dz9uzv 10.73.100.73,127.0.0.1 /secure/project/DeleteProject.jspa [jira.issue.managers.DefaultAttachmentManager] Unable to delete the issue attachment directory '$JIRA_HOME/data/attachments/<Project Name>/<Issue ID>' because it is not empty.

Cause

Root cause not found.

Resolution

  1. Backup your $JIRA_HOME/data/attachments/<Project Name>/ directory.

  2. Delete the contents of this directory

  3. Try and delete the project from within JIRA again.
