Jira still sends emails although outgoing mail is disabled

Problem

Although email notifications are disabled globally in Jira, Jira is still sending emails.

Diagnosis

• Review the email content and formatting to find out if it's a standard Jira email

• Review your installed add-ons that have an email functionality

Cause

Some add-ons may bypass the Jira global email settings and send email from Jira. In this case, the email will look slightly different than the standard Jira notifications.

Examples of add-ons include:

• ScriptRunner for Jira (Escalation service script)

• Mail this issue

• Issue Reminders

• Emails sent by Automation Rules (see AUTO-112 - Atlassian Automation does not respect Jira's Outgoing Email Global configuration / use the same mail sending)

Resolution

Disable the add-ons that are sending the emails.
