How to update Asset object attribute using automation on Data Center

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Summary
As an admin, you may want to setup an Automation for Jira rule that is able to edit the attributes of an Assets object. This is currently possible on Cloud and for that we have the following feature request for it on Data Center:

Possible Solution
While this would require a lot of customization, it's possible to edit Asset object attributes using its own REST API endpoints:
You'd need to use Send Webhook action to:
<BASE_URL>/rest/insight/latest/object/<ObjectID or Key>
The Key of the object for current issue can be fetched using the smart value
issue.customfield_XXXXX.key
With the attribute ID you'd like to change, feed it into a POST on:
<BASE_URL>/rest/insight/latest/objectattribute/<AttributeId>
