How to rename users in JIRA 6.0+ in internal directory with LDAP authentication

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. ℹ️In JIRA 6.0 it is possible to rename users in JIRA's Internal Directory and Internal Directory with LDAP authentication.
Note: This article applies to users that are in JIRA's Internal Directory with LDAP authentication. To rename users in JIRA's Internal Directory, simply follow step 1 and 2 below.
To rename users in Internal Directory with LDAP authentication go to JIRA's User Management page and click the 'Edit' link in the Operations column.
Update the Username field.
Next, go to the user object on your LDAP server and rename the attribute mapped to JIRA's Username.
