How to prevent Opsgenie comment on Jira Issue as part of Alert Action

Summary

Opsgenie adds a public comment on Jira Issues when the alert is actioned by the responder. In this article we will understand how to prevent public comments on Jira Issues by Opsgenie.

Solution

As part of Alert integration we have Incoming and Outgoing Automation rules(Opsgenie > Settings> Integrations > Select the integration and edit). With outgoing Automation rules, there are certain actions configured, which can cause this behavior.

For Example, in the below screenshot, we see a comment is added when the alert is either ACK, UNACK, or "Note is added" to an Alert:

We can uncheck "SEND ALERT UPDATES BACK TO Jira SERVICE MANAGEMENT" or change the action according to the requirement.

Currently, it is not possible to create internal comments on Jira and we have a FR for the same:- JSDCLOUD-9723:Ability to add a private (internal) note in Jira ticket when action is taken in Opsgenie
