How to mention a group of users using @ feature in a Jira issue

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

Currently, it is not possible to mention a group created under the admin page (https://admin.atlassian.com) using the "@" mention feature in Jira. A feature request has been submitted for this enhancement and is tracked under:

As a temporary workaround, users can create a Team and add the desired participants, including themselves. By mentioning this Team using "@" in Jira issues, participants associated with the Team (group) will be tagged.

Environment

Jira Cloud

Cause

The limitation arises from the absence of a direct capability to mention groups created under the admin page using the "@" mention feature in Jira.

Solution

To work around the current limitation and mention a group in Jira issues, you can mention a Jira Team instead:

  1. Create a Team:

    • Navigate to Team > Create Team.

    • Add the users you want to include in the group, including yourself.

  2. Add Users:

    • Within the Team creation process, ensure to add the same users you intended to include in the group.

  3. Navigate to Jira Issue:

    • Go to any Jira issue where you want to mention the group.

  4. Use "@" to Tag the Team (Group):

    • In the comment or description section, use the "@" symbol followed by the name of the Team you created.

    • Participants associated with the Team (group) will be automatically tagged.
