Summary

Problem

It takes really long for a single/some users to Log into Jira and this always replicable. The logs did not say much where Jira just log as usual where it takes longer for the login, without any error. For example, profiling logs enabled.

ℹ️ Here, it takes 20 seconds for login.

Diagnosis

Environment

  • Jira is integrated with External User Directory and Tempo is installed.

Diagnostic Steps

  1. No error to be found in the logs. Bypassing the network did not change the login times for the affected users.

  2. Create a new user and test the login. The expected result is for the new user to be logged in very fast compared to the affected user.

  3. Check whether Tempo is installed and check the amount of the teams the affected users are in. The recorded teams were the user to have this issue was around 1000 teams.

Cause

It appears due to the huge number of Tempo Teams the users are in, it makes the login slower.

Solution

Resolution

  • Remove the Teams from the user.

  • Or, remove the Teams entirely.
