Fix "set a default value" on translated fields in Jira Service Management

Summary

When you see "Set a default value for the field" on the translation field, it means the value of your project's default translation is missing. To fix this, follow the steps below to repopulate the default value for the field.

Solution

Reset the default value on translated fields

To demonstrate, we’ll show you how to fix the translation on the "Approval required" notification in a JSM project. In our example, the value for the English translation of this field is broken, and displays "Set a default value for the field." We have configured a Turkish translation of this field, which displays correctly in the JSM UI as seen in the screenshot:

The approval required notification has the correct Turkish translation, but the English translation needs to be reset
  1. Go to Project settingsCustomer notifications

  2. Select Edit for the Approval Required notification

  3. Use the Content box to update the notification

    • If Content is empty:

      • Provide the correct content, OR

      • Revert the content to default value

    • If Content looks correct

      • Insert a blank space at the end of the content to allow us to re-save it

  4. Save the value

To locate and translate other JSM fields please refer to the following:

  • Customer portal content

    • Project settings → Channels & self service → Portal

      • Update the content in “Portal name” and “Introduction text”

  • Portal request type groups

    • Project settings → Channels & self service → Portal

      • Select “Portal groups” and edit the content of the request type group

  • Request types

    • Project settings → Request types → [Your custom request type]

      • Update the affected request type fields

  • Workflows

    • Project settings → Request types → [Your custom request type]

      • Update the value of the workflow name

  • Notification templates

    • Project settings → Customer notifications → Edit template

      • Select “Revert subject and styles to default

  • Customer notifications

    • Project settingsCustomer notifications → Edit

      • Update the content of the field

      • If it’s an empty value, provide the content or revert the content to default value
