Error/Failure scenarios during import from Trello to Jira Cloud

Summary

Encountered problem when performing Trello to Jira import with old Jira import experience.

Environment

Jira Cloud

Cause

There are multiple causes to hit this error message. Please see the possible causes and their respective solutions below:

Problem 1: Attaching to the issue with currently logged-in user.

Error on Jira UI could appear as below:

1 2 3 4 5 Custom Field [External issue ID] was not found and cannot be created User named user1 not found. attaching to issue with currently logged in user instead User named user2 not found. attaching to issue with currently logged in user instead Commenter named user3 not found. Creating issue with currently logged in user instead User named user4 not found. attaching to issue with currently logged in user instead.

Cause:

The user who performed Import does not hold Org admin permission.

Solution:

Provide Org admin Permission to the user who is performing the import on Jira cloud.

Problem 2: With the New Jira Import wizard/New experience of Import, Trello Board column header does not get imported with respect to the column name on Jira Board after migration.

Cause:

The New Jira Import wizard imports Trello board columns as statuses on Jira cloud. Issues would have respective column name as status on the Issue view screen. However, the Jira board does not show the same column same as Trello. Navigate to Board > Configure Board > Columns and statuses > all Trello column would reflect under To-do

Solution:

Option 1:

Navigate to Board > Configure Board > Columns and statuses > all Trello column would reflect under To-do > create respective column in Board and drag and drop concerned status into that card

Option 2: Using Old Jira import experience to perform Trello to Jira import, it will move the issues on respective column on Board.

Problem 3: Using Jira old import experience get error below | Unexpected failure occurred. Importer will stop immediately. Data may be in an unstable state: Cannot invoke "com.atlassian.jira.plugins.importer.trello.model.User.getUsername()

1 ERROR - Unexpected failure occurred. Importer will stop immediately. Data may be in an unstable state: Cannot invoke "com.atlassian.jira.plugins.importer.trello.model.User.getUsername()" because the return value of "com.atlassian.jira.plugins.importer.trello.model.Action.getMemberCreator()" is null

This is caused by the following bug:

Solution:

Clear the browser cache and cookies and use incognito mode to perform the import. Alternatively, you can use/switch to the New Jira import experience that mitigates the problem.
