When attempting to transition an issue, JIRA responds with the following error:

This is only seen while using a Script Workflow Function provided by the Script Runner plugin.
Cause
This syntax is used to define properties and variables for the Script Runner engine, and is intercepted by it.

Remove the Script Workflow Function from the Workflow
