Summary

Private filters in Jira don't allow even Jira administrators to make edits. If you need to update a filter owned by other users, you can follow these steps.

Solution

Change filter owner then update as needed

First, we update the filter owner

  1. Navigate to ⚙️Jira admin > System > Filters

  2. Select ⚙️> Change Owner

  3. Update the owner to your own user

Next, update the filter

  1. In Jira's main navigation, select Issues> Manage filters

  2. Search the filter that you changed ownership for

  3. Update filter conditions

  4. Select Save

Optionally, you can restore ownership to the previous owner again.

Private filter cannot be managed in Jira admin > System > Filters earlier than Jira 8.11.0.
