Disable Jira language packs

Platform Notice: Data Center Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the Data Center platform.

Note that this KB was created for the Data Center version of the product. Data Center KBs for non-Data-Center-specific features may also work for Server versions of the product, however they have not been tested. Support for Server* products ended on February 15th 2024. Summary

Follow the solution below to disable an unused language pack in Jira so your users can not select it from the User Profile > Preferences > Language drop-down list.

Environment

Jira Server / Jira Data Center

Solution

You may follow below steps to disable one of the Language Packs, for example Italian Language Pack:

  • Click Administration > Manage Apps > Manage Apps

  • Click drop list box and select "All apps"

  • Input "Language" in the filter box

  • In Application components section, expand the Jira Software Language pack you would like to disable, for example "JIRA Software Italian (Italy) Language Pack"

  • Click the "+" at the left of "1 of 1 modules enabled", please refer screen capture below

  • Move the cursor to "Italian (Italy) (it_IT)" section and click Disable, please refer screen capture below

  • In System apps section, expand the Jira Core Language pack you would like to disable, for example "JIRA Core Italian (Italy) Language Pack"

  • Click Disable button to disable it

Once both app for the specific language pack are disabled, the users should no longer be able to select it from the language drop down list.
