Customer unable to login to portal due to "Something bad happened"

Summary

A customer who is listed as active in the instance and who is also added to the project is unable to login and gets the error message:

Something bad happened The invitation link has expired. Please request a new link from an administrator or log in.

Solution

The customer may be accessing the invitation link from their email, which has expired now. 

The solution is to have the user access the link as below (ideally using an incognito window) and login using the email and password that was used at the time of account setup.
