Create dashboard gadget dropdown in Jira Cloud doesn't display any options

Summary

When you try to create a gadget using the Create dashboard gadget popup in Jira Cloud, no options are shown in the Select dashboard dropdown.

Diagnosis

1. Access a work item filter.

2. Click Export.

3. Choose Create dashboard gadget.

4. On the pop-up screen, under Select dashboard, no options are available.

Cause

Only the dashboards you own are available

The Select dashboard field only shows the dashboards you own. Even if you have permission to edit a dashboard, it won't be selectable.

Solution

There are two options to work around this:

Change ownership of the existing dashboard

Become the owner of the dashboard to quickly create a gadget for it.

You can ask the current owner to change ownership following these steps:

1. In Jira, go to Dashboards.

2. On the list of dashboards, click More actions (•••) > Change Owner.

3. Select the new owner and click Change Owner.

If the current owner isn't available, you can ask a Jira admin to change ownership following the steps below:

1. Go to System > Settings.

2. Under Shared items, select Dashboards.

3. Find the dashboard.

4. Click More actions (•••) > Change Owner.

5. Select the new owner and click Change Owner.

Copy the dashboard to add gadgets

You can create a copy of the relevant dashboard to find it in the Create dashboard gadget option.

To copy a dashboard:

1. In Jira, go to Dashboards.

2. On the relevant dashboard, click More actions (•••) > Copy.

3. Configure the fields as desired, and click Save.
