Summary
The user interface currently lacks a feature that allows users to directly transfer or copy the date and time information selected in the Date Time picker field to the Date picker field.
This KB outlines the steps to copy the date value from a Date Time picker to a Date picker field using Automation.
Environment
Jira Cloud
Solution
Automation flows can copy the date value from the Date Time picker field to the Date picker field using a smart value.
Consider the requirement is to copy the date in the Planned Date (Date Time picker field) has to the New Date field (Date Type Picker field).
Here's how you can configure the automation flow:
Trigger: Choose the trigger according to your requirements.
Action: In the "Edit work item" action, select the field that needs to be updated from the "Choose Fields to Set..." section. In this example, select the "New Date" field, which is of the Date Picker type.
To copy the data from, for example, the "Planned Date" (a Date Time Picker field), use the following smart value:
{{issue.customfield_10119.convertToTimeZone("Asia/Kolkata").jiraDate}}
The example smart value uses the example New Date field ID 10119 and converts its value to the named time zone before producing a date. Replace 10119 with your Date Time field’s ID and check that the time zone matches the date you intend to copy. You can find valid inputs for timezones here (verify Canonical ID column).
You can use the automation flow's audit log to identify the updated work items. Open those work items and compare the destination Date picker value with the date produced from the source Date Time value in the configured time zone.
