Can't create company-managed project in Jira Service Management

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

Users with Administer Jira Global Permissions can't create company-managed projects and the option to create company-managed projects is not available. More details on team-managed and company-managed projects can be found here.

Diagnosis

The user can create only team-managed projects and not company-managed projects even with the right global permissions.

Cause

This behavior is observed in the instances that only have team-managed projects and the team-managed projects were enabled using the link <your site name>.atlassian.net/jsd-next-gen. When we enable team-managed project creation through the link, it does not turn on Enable Team-managed projects option under Jira Service Management configuration which prohibits the company-managed project creation steps.

Solution

You need to toggle ON "Enable Team -managed projects" option using the below steps:

  1. In Jira, navigate to Settings > Products,

  2. Under Jira Service Management, click Configuration > Scroll to the bottom and click the toggle button to Enable Team-managed Projects.

  3. Once you've done this, try to create the project again. The option to select team-managed or company-managed projects will be visible.
