Summary
Sometimes you want to have a specific name for a Pie Chart dashboard gadget instead of just the name of the filter.

The pie chart gadget constructs the title of the gadget on the format "Pie Chart: [name of the filter used]". This title is auto-generated at the time that the dashboard gadget is rendered. It is not stored anywhere and cannot be changed manually. But you can work around this by changing the filter names and make duplicate filters with different names to differentiate between the different chart gadgets.
Solution
Environment
Jira Data Center (verified on version 9.12.15 at time of writing)
Workaround
Instead of editing the title directly, you can edit the filter name. The new name will then be reflected in the pie chart gadget title.
1. Go to: Administration > System > Shared Items > Filters
2. Click on the filter you want to edit
3. Click Details (next to the filter title) and select Edit permissions from the drop-down menu
4. Edit the filter name
If you are using the same filter for multiple gadgets, you can duplicate that filter and give each one a unique name. You can then change the filter used by the gadget to the duplicated filter to get its name as the gadget title.
1. Go to: Administration > System > Shared Items > Filters
2. Click on the filter you want to duplicate
3. Without changing anything, click the Save as button next to the filter title to save it as a new filter and give it a name
4. Go to the pie chart gadget and change and choose Edit from the gadget menu.
5. Select the newly saved filter name to differentiate that gadget from the others
