Managing the Jira Align connector during Jira maintenance or Jira version upgrades

Summary

When planning a Jira version release or scheduled maintenance that requires several hours of Jira downtime, follow these best practices for the Jira Align connector to prevent errors and avoid data conflicts.

Solution

  • It is recommended to deactivate the connector on the Jira Align (JA) side before bringing down Jira instance. This will ensure that the connector doesn't generate errors while Jira is unavailable.

  • To disable (and re-activate) the connector on the Jira Align(JA) UI, navigate to Jira Align > Administration > Jira Settings > Jira Connectors

  • In the Jira connector window, there is a Deactivate button that you can use to deactivate the specific connector.

  • Once Jira is back up and running, re-activate the connector on the Jira Align side. To activate the connector, an “Activate” button will be available on the same window.

  • Typically, all work item updates since the connector was deactivated will start syncing once the connection is re-established, following Jira Align connector automated scheduled sync timers.

One best practice/recommendation is to avoid making updates on Jira Align while Jira is down. The reason is that, in case anyone does an update on the JA side during the time while Jira is down, the JA work item change might be overwritten if the same item has any changes in Jira once the connector is activated.
