How to remove the 'out-of-the-box' Jira Align User roles

Summary

Administrators may want to delete the out-of-the-box 'pre-defined' user roles. This article provides information on which roles cannot be removed and guidance on deleting the other non-essential roles.

Environment

Jira Align

Solution

The system user roles: ‘System', ‘Super Admin’, and 'Team Member’ cannot be deleted.

As a result, the 'Delete' button is not available for these roles.

All other roles can be deleted as outlined in the following help page Manage system roles

ℹ️ The permission toggle: Administration> Roles and Additional Options > Manage Roles is needed in order to be able to delete roles.

⚠️ if there are users still assigned to a given role when it is deleted, then they will be assigned to the default role automatically.
