Configure Sprint List in 'Committed by' Dropdown for Jira Align Dependencies
Summary
When attempting to submit a 'Committed by' date into a Dependency, involving Agile (Scrum) teams, in Jira Align, the dropdown choice may not show the expected sprint anchors even though the 'Needed by' dropdown does show the expected choices.
Kanban teams will see a date selection wizard in place of a dropdown, meaning this article does not apply to using Kanban teams.
Solution
The Sprint Anchors listed in the 'Needed by' dropdown are based on the Sprint Anchors configured in the Sync Sprints tab of the Program Increment (PI) that has been linked to the Dependency; however, there are additional criteria that will limit which Sprint Anchors are displayed in the 'Committed by' dropdown. The following points all affect the content of the 'Committed by' dropdown:
The required Sprint Anchors must exist in the Sync Sprints tab of the Program Increment (PI)
The Start Date and Finish Date settings in the General tab of Program Increment (PI) must cover all of the sprint anchors configured in the Program Increment (PI)
Team Sprints for each sprint anchor configured in the PI must exist for the team selected in the 'Depends on' field of the Dependency.
If no team sprints have been created within the Start and Finish date settings chosen, then a blue information icon replaces the 'Committed by' dropdown, and hovering over that icon displays the message: "The Depends on Team has no Sprints that fall within the associated Program Increment date range".
Configuration Check
If the expected list of Sprint Anchors shown in the Committed by dropdown is less than expected, then check and correct the following:
The type of team for the 'Depends on' team is set to Agile
The dates set in the General tab of the Program Increment (PI) cover the full length of the PI
The correct sprint anchors exist in the Sync Sprints tab of the Program Increment (PI)
Team Sprints for every Sprint Anchor exist in Items > Sprints (filtered for the 'Depends on' team and the PI)
