What are agents?

Rovo agents are configurable AI teammates that can be called on or created by any team member to collaborate and move work forward. They use data from Atlassian apps and any third-party apps you connect to, providing contextually relevant information to meet your needs. These agents can be found in Chat, automation rules, while editing in Confluence and Jira, or in the Studio app.

Agents can help your team save time on repetitive work, improve consistency across teams, act on your behalf, scale expertise to more people, and keep work moving even when you’re offline.

Key parts of an agent

Agents are made up of parts that work together to give you helpful answers and take action on your behalf.

• Identity: how you want the agent to show up for users. It’s name and description.

• Behavior: define the goals, guardrails, and tone that guide how the agent behaves.

• Scenarios: define how you want the agent to behave in different situations

• Knowledge: the data the agent can reference, such as content from Confluence, Jira, or external systems.

• Skills: actions that your agent is allowed to take, such as draft a Confluence page or send Slack messages.

• Hands‑off execution of routine work: Agents can trigger automation rules to create or update work items when criteria are met, so repetitive updates happen automatically in the background.

• On‑demand solutions partner: Your agent can act as solutions partner that proposes architectures, patterns, and examples aligned with your internal guidelines, so specialists can focus on the highest‑impact work.

• Proactive risk and quality checks: Ask agents to review proposed solutions, highlight risks or gaps, and suggest mitigations so issues are caught earlier and decisions are better informed.

• Streamline onboarding: Let agents answer common onboarding questions about projects, tools, and ways of working so new teammates can ramp up quickly.
