Get insights on focus areas
Beyond fields and updates, the summaries and charts on a focus area’s tabs help you get a better picture of how things are progressing and potential issues to address.
Insights on the Summary tab
The summaries and charts on this tab aggregate data from all of a focus area's contributing sub-focus areas, regardless of type. Items are included in this data when they roll up to the focus area, either through direct or indirect association.
Work. Jira work items, Jira Align work items, and Atlassian projects linked to the focus area. The items included depends on which apps you’ve connected to Focus. Hover over a bar segment to view the number of items in each status.
Goals. Goals linked to the focus area. Hover over a bar segment to view the number of goals in each status.
Positions. Positions linked to the focus area. Hover over a bar segment to view the number of filled or not filled positions.
Labor costs. Labor costs associated with the focus area. Hover over a bar segment to view the amount of filled or not filled labor costs.
Needs attention. Surfaces at-risk, off track, or overdue goals and work within the current focus area and its direct children. You can filter the view by All, Goals, or Work using the available tabs. To temporarily dismiss an item, select more actions () and choose Snooze, which hides it from the section for 14 days. Alternatively, you can permanently dismiss an item by selecting more actions () and choosing Dismiss.
Insights on the Sub-focus areas tab
The summaries and charts on this tab aggregate data from all of a focus area's contributing sub-focus areas, regardless of type. Focus areas are included in this data when they roll up to the focus area, either through direct or indirect association.
Completed. The number of sub-focus areas that have been completed.
Remaining. The number of sub-focus areas that are pending or in progress.
Overdue. The number of sub-focus areas with target dates that have already passed.
Due soon. The number of sub-focus areas with target dates in the next 30 days.
Focus areas to watch. Displays sub-focus areas that are pending, at risk, or off track. Each bar illustrates the time since the sub-focus area entered its current status.
The roll-ups on this tab only include sub-focus areas you have permission to view.
Insights on the Goals tab
The summaries and charts on this tab aggregate data from all of the goals linked to the focus areas and its sub-focus areas.
Completed. The number of goals that have been completed.
Remaining. The number of goals areas that are pending or in progress.
Overdue. The number of goals areas with target dates that have already passed.
Due soon. The number of goals with target dates in the next 30 days.
Status breakdown. An overview of the goals in each status. Hover over a status in the list to view percentage information.
Status history. View a record of goal status. Hover over a bar segment to view more detailed information. The roll-ups on this tab only include goals you have permission to view.
Insights on the Work tab
The summaries and charts on this tab aggregate data from all of the work items linked to the focus areas and its sub-focus areas, such as Jira and Jira Align work items and Atlassian projects.
The roll-ups on this tab only include work items you have permission to view.
Completed. The number of work items that have been completed.
Remaining. The number of work items that are in the to do or in progress statuses.
Overdue. The number of work items with due dates that have already passed.
Due soon. The number of work items with due dates in the next 30 days.
Work in progress. A list of statuses breaks down the number of work items in each status. Hover over a status’s row to view the percentage of work items in that status.
Work progress. A historical trend of the linked Jira work items and Atlassian projects in each status. The data on this chart does not include Jira Align work items.
Insights on the Positions tab
The summaries and charts on this tab aggregate positions from the focus area and all of its sub-focus areas. The insights on this tab display differently, depending on whether you have labor rates set up.
If labor rates have been set up
Positions. The total of positions associated with the focus area and all of its sub-focus areas.
Filled. The total of filled positions associated with the focus area and all of its sub-focus areas.
Not filled. The total of not filled positions associated with the focus area and all of its sub-focus areas.
Filled labor cost. The total cost of filled positions associated with the focus area and all of its sub-focus areas.
Labor breakdown. This chart visualizes a rollup of positions and labor costs, broken down by position attributes like location, job family, tenure, and sub-focus areas. Use the dropdowns in the upper-right to configure your view.
If labor rates haven’t been set up
Positions. The total number of positions associated with the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
Filled. The total number of filled positions associated with the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
Not filled. The total number of not filled positions associated with the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
Median tenure. The median worker tenure range for all of the filled positions associated with the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
Tenure distribution. A bar chart breakdown of tenure for all workers in filled positions across the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
Location breakdown. A donut chart visualizing locations for all workers in filled positions across the focus area and its sub-focus areas.
