Symptoms

During the default directory creation (installation wizard) or after installing Crowd and creating new internal directories, the "password encryption" drop down box is empty.

Cause

There are two possible causes:

1. The Crowd application needs more memory to be able to load the encryption algorithms component, or

2. The installation was not completely successful

Resolution

If cause #1, do the following:

  • Increase the heap memory (file <Crowd-Install>/apache-tomcat/bin/setenv.sh (setenv.bat for Windows servers)) and restart Crowd, this will allow it to load the necessary components and populate the list box.

If cause #2, do the following:

  • Reinstall Crowd. The fastest way to do this would be to create a backup of your instance and then delete the Crowd home directory, which will force Crowd to start the installation wizard again. During the installation you will be able to restore the backup.
