Problem

Users are unable to log in.

Cause

The internal directory has been disabled, and external user management sources are unavailable. Generally, disabling the internal user management is not allowed, but it's possible from a failed upgrade, a bug in a plugin, or some unknown cause.

Resolution

  1. Use a native client to connect to your database

  2. Run the following SQL:

    UPDATE cwd_directory SET active = 'T';

    ℹ️ The value of 'T' may need to be changed to match the 'true' value in your database. The above is for PostgreSQL.

  3. Restart Confluence and all the user directories will be enabled.
