Unable to Add a Page Restriction Due to Invalid Page Layout

Summary
Symptoms
Neither adding view restriction or edit restriction will update the screen with the appropriate restriction.
Diagnosis
Firebug or Chrome Developer tools shows 404 when clicking on the "me" element. Changing to a different theme corrects the problem.

You may have an invalid page layout specified.
Solution
Resolution
Go to
Admin >> Layouts >> Page LayoutsIf there's a non default layout, edit it, then save it in a file for backup.
Restore to defaults.
