"This Webpage Is Not Available" Error Message Displayed When Testing LDAP Connectivity

Symptoms
When testing LDAP connectivity an error message similar to this is displayed:

This webpage is not available
The webpage at http://localhost:8090/plugins/servlet/embedded-crowd/directories/troubleshoot/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error.
Cause
This is a rare issue where an error message is being returned from the LDAP server, however it's unable to be understood by Confluence.
Resolution
Check the <conf-home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log for errors, you should see an error similar to User directory sync fails with LDAP Error Code 49. Resolving this problem will usually be all you need to do.
