Parser message: Unexpected character '=' (code 61) (expected a name start character)

Symptoms

The following error is displayed when saving a page in Confluence :

1 2 3 The following error(s) occurred: The editor content could not be parsed. There is a problem at line 1, column 2631. Parser message: Unexpected character '=' (code 61) (expected a name start character) at [row,col {unknown-source}]: [1,2631]

There is no error in the atlassian-confluence.log.

Diagnosis

If you notice the content of the page carefully, then some of the content has been converted to a link while its not a link :

Workarounds

  • "Unlink" the text that is incorrectly turned into a hyperlink

    1. Click the hyperlinked text

    2. Clink "Unlink" in the resulting popup

  • Wrap the affected text in a code block macro
