Symptoms

After integrating Confluence with LDAP, users receive a 'not permitted' error when logging in.

Cause

To gain access to Confluence, users must be in a group that has the 'can-use' global permissions. By default, local users are placed into the confluence-users group, which has this permission, but LDAP groups do not. See Global Permissions Overview for details of the 'can-use' permission.

Resolution

With the local Confluence admin user that you reserved, go to Administration >> Global Permissions and add the appropriate groups. This is Step 6 from Add LDAP Integration.
