LDAP Users with Upper Case Characters Cannot Add Favourites in Confluence 3.1.x

Symptoms

An LDAP user in confluence cannot add favourites if they have Upper case characters in their username.

The message they will see within the confluence UI is:

You are not permitted to add the label(s) ~username:favourite to this page.

Where username is the username of the user trying to add the favourite however in lower case.

For example LDAP user with username "bob", can add pages as favourites, however the LDAP user "Mary" cannot. This only affects LDAP users and not internal users.

Cause

This is a known bug that affects 3.1 and 3.1.1 and is reported at CONFSERVER-18218 - LDAP users with uppercase usernames cannot add favourites.

Resolution

The issue will be fixed in 3.1.2. To patch your 3.1.x instance, apply the patch attached at CONFSERVER-18218 - LDAP users with uppercase usernames cannot add favourites.
