Symptoms

Microsoft Windows cannot find the WebDAV drive share, but the destination location is entered correctly.

Cause

Windows might be denying mapping of non-secure (http) WebDAV locations.

Resolution

Enable mapping of non-secure WebDAV locations via the Windows registry:

  1. If you are running on Windows Vista, ensure that the Microsoft Web Folders patch Software Update from the Microsoft web site has been installed.

  2. Open the Windows registry editor. This can be done in the following Windows operating systems as described:

    • Windows XP — go to Start->Run and then enter regedit into the 'Run' dialog box.

    • Versions of Windows prior to Windows XP — use the same process for Windows XP, but enter regedt32 into the 'Run' dialog box instead of regedit.

  3. Browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters key. (Refer to the WebDAV System web site reference for more information).

  4. Find a DWORD/REG_DWORD entry named BasicAuthLevel and set its value to 2.

  5. Restart your computer and try again.
