Confluence Whiteboards look blank or fail to load for specific users
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.
Summary
Some users can't load a specific Confluence whiteboard. It appears as a blank screen, or presents an error to affected users. Other users can access it without issue. The affected users can also access other whiteboards normally.
Solution
This issue may be related to user-specific settings, permissions, browser compatibility, or organization-level policies (such as WebGL or 3D graphics restrictions).
Verify Permissions
Confirm the affected user has the correct space and whiteboard permissions.
Check if the user is part of the group or role allowed to access or edit the whiteboard.
Browser and Device Checks
Ensure the user is using a supported browser and version.
Ask the user to try a different browser or device to rule out local issues.
Check Organization Policies and compatibility
Some enterprise policies may block WebGL or 3D graphics APIs required for whiteboards to render. Confirm with your IT department whether such policies are in place and, if possible, temporarily disable them for testing.
Also, ensure the domain canvas-workers.atlassian.com is allowed through any network or firewall restrictions.
To check your compatibility with the whiteboards editor, use Atlassian's compatibility check tool.
Impersonation Test
If possible, impersonate the affected user to see if the issue can be reproduced. If you cannot reproduce the problem while impersonating the user, the issue may be local to the user’s environment.
If none of the above helps, raise a ticket with Atlassian Support, including all details you've gathered from this investigation.
