Summary
Changing the username attribute in delegated directories has a few extra steps depending on how the directory is configured.
Solution
Scenario 1
If Copy User on Login and Update User attributes on Login are checked within the directory settings then the User Name Attribute field can simply be updated.
Scenario 2
If Copy User on Login and Update User attributes on Login are not already checked the following must be done:
Check Copy User on Login and Update User attributes on Login
Wait for all users to log in at least once
Update the User Name Attribute field to the desired value
This process must be followed because when Copy User on Login and Update User attributes on Login are not checked the external ID (User Unique ID Attribute in the directory configuration) used to track the user across username changes is not synced into Confluence.
